It’s been a while!

It’s been ages since I have blogged! Mostly because I have had a lot going on in my personal life which is all very exciting and trying to fit in training and fundrasing has been rather hard back getting back to it as the trip is LESS THE 6 WEEKS AWAY!!! I’m very excited for it and still can’t believe I have been given this amazing opportunity. Just looking forward to going and making the most of it.
My general training and fitness has taken a bit of a backburner as after the last half marathon I was have really bad knee pain so the training has practically went to a stand still partly because I didn’t want to cause further injury and partly because I was scared of the pain and didn’t want my training to go backwards. The last two weeks though I have been back out running with most runs I have had no pain which is good but I am not going as far and just behind the pace I was at but hopefully with time that will go back to where I was.
As for the fundraising that has pretty much come to a stop as well but will get back on the case as still a far way off my target. Hopefully I will still be able to make my huge target as it would mean the world to me as well as the Alzheimer’s Society and all the people the charity help out. Instead of just writing about it, I am going to go out and do something 🙂
Also I would like to thank everyone who has supported me so far and below is the link for my justgiving page if you can spare a few quid. THANKS!

Fundraising Weekend

This weekend has been amazing weekend for fundraising, I have now over doubled my running total, now over a £1000 towards my £5000 target. The money raised was from an amazing bake sale that happened at my mums workplace which raised an amazing £400. Then last night I then had a BINGO NIGHT which I thought was great fun as I love a good game of bingo. The bingo night raised £180 and hopefully will be able to do another one soon. I’m now getting really excited about the trek as it it getting ever closer. Going to London next weekend to meet the other trekkers, which i’m looking forward to so I can hopefully get to know them a bit better before we leave. Hopefully I will also be able to get some new fundraising ideas and start planning some more fun events. Overall I have had an amazing weekend and hope for another one soon.

Dementia Awareness Week

Yesterday marked the end of Dementia Awareness Week and I hope the people are more aware of Dementia and that it comes in different forms and how it effects both the individual as well as their family. I can’t believe my grampy passed away over two years ago. When he was alive he was a huge part of life and he was always there when we needed him. He was certainly the best grampy in the world (not that i’m biased or anything). I have a lot to thank him for. I certainly wouldn’t be going to trek the Great Wall if it wasn’t for him and I am very grateful for this amazing opportunity. I would also be a lot lazier as I wouldn’t be running. It has given me a great sense of achievement and after going for a run I feel as though I could take on the world. To be able to go out and do half marathons is just an amazing feeling I can actually say I enjoy running (still shocks me to say that!)

Feeling Good

Not long got back from a 12k run and I feel as though I could take on the world. It was nice to be on my own for over an hour running along the Taff Trail listening to some random music and still obsessing about the time (some things never change). That has been the furthest I have ever gone out on my own and done and I still feel as though I could have done more but the 12k was my target and it was reached. Feeling very accomplished with the running and certainly have a new frame of mind around it. Not sure what has caused it, may just be the fact the sun is shinning but what ever it is I hope its here to stay. Not long now until another half marathon and hopefully this will be the best one yet just a shame it’s in Swansea!!!

Update: April 2015

Just a quick update of what has happened this month:

Training:

Been completely gutted with training as I haven’t been able to do many park runs due to work on Saturday morning but have now got a personal trainer which is going great. Certainly giving me much more motivation then going to the gym alone.

Fundraising:

The money is slowly increasing. Have a few things planned for the upcoming months. I now have a text code which is SMCS 55 £1/£2/£3/£4/£5/£10 to 70070 which is very exciting. Total money raised to date is £482.21 getting ever nearer to the first £500!

Upcoming Events:

June 13th Event Information Day

June 14th Swansea Half Marathon

Update: March 2015

Just a quick update of what has happened this month:

Training:

The training I have done has been good but I haven’t been able to train as much as wanting to, partly because I have recently changed roles in my job so adjusting to working on a shift pattern and also haven’t been feeling great. Starting to get back on track now and still managed a new 5k PB :)!

Fundraising:

Going well, had a successful bake sale in work raising just over £85 and with hopes of doing another one around easter. Guess the time half marathon sheets filling up also so overall a rather successful month. Total money raised to date is £309.76.

Newport Half Marathon News

After completing Newport Half Marathon at the start of the month there were rumour that the course was too short. After a lot of wishful thinking that this wasn’t case, yesterday I found out that the Newport Half Marathon was officially too short. I’m rather disappointed, just because I thought I had a new PB, but no. The course was just over 600m too short. At first I thought that it was a huge distance but the more I thought about it, it wasn’t as bad as it first sounds. I got my PB down by 6 minutes which even though I was completely knackered at the end I still think I would of got the PB but obviously but not as much. On a positive note though I have got another half marathon in June plus I have now signed up to Cardiff Half Marathon for next March which is the championship one which is very exciting. I’m now just hoping that the other courses are measured right.

Post Newport Half Marathon

Two weeks ago I completed Newport Half Marathon with what will hopefully will remain a PB. Since completing the race it has been rumoured that the course wasn’t long enough as other competitors were complaining that they had done better then there PB’s. I’m very much hopping that the course was the right length (it sure felt it, actually it felt longer) as I would very much like to keep my time as a PB. Since completing the half marathon training hasn’t really been happening (still been doing Park run of course but not much else) but now it’s time to get my backside in gear and start again as it won’t be long until the next half marathon will be here. I must be getting serious about the running or going completely nuts, because the same day as completing Newport I signed up for Swansea in June. Very much looking forward to it.

Newport Half Marathon!

IMG_1082Today is a very exciting day as being Welsh it is St Davids Day, but more importantly it’s Newport Half Marathon Day :)! My first official race of the year and a very successful race it was! I hope to do many more this year before the China Trek.

The nerves were running high this morning, which is pretty typical for an event day, this race was the biggest psychological challenge I have ever faced. IMG_1083It started to go wrong as soon as the race started where I ended up what felt like miles behind the 2 hour pacer, which I hoped to follow for as long as possible. Next problem that occurred was there wasn’t any visible mile markers, of which I use to judge how well I am doing based on time. Somehow though (well I must of had an amazing start) I managed to get a NEW PB!!! I am still in a bit of shock that I managed this but I am very happy. My official time stands at 2 hours, 14 minutes and 58 seconds. Now I will be having a nice restful afternoon.
